Right now, we may very well feel that keeping sane is one of the most difficult tasks to achieve. Whether we are still in lockdown or trying to make a better life for ourselves, we must remember that when we go without, we often struggle.
We have to remember that when we are struggling for the benefit of staying safe, improving our resilience, or just staying healthy, there’s a lot to be said for treating ourselves along the way.
A lot of people feel guilty if they do something nice for themselves. But I find there are good reasons for everyone to treat themselves well.
- It Can Rejuvenate You
With today’s whirlwind of news and information, it’s easy to feel burnout and fatigue. This means that we’ve got to find ways to keep ourselves rejuvenated and re-energized.
Indulgence is something that you can do to hit the reset button on yourself. When you’ve had a bad day or week, take the opportunity to do something naughty like bake this marble cake or draw a hot bath filled with salts and lavender.
I have been baking and eating all variations of Italian Focaccia to my thighs content while learning to yodel like a Swiss milkmaid.
So, like me, take that time to pamper yourself and realize that one little thing may very well be the thing that can rejuvenate you.
If you feel that you are struggling every step of the way, throw caution to the wind and indulge in the things that you think are a little bit naughty. It will only serve to center you and create a surge of energy.
- The Negativity Associated with Deprivation is Not Productive
When you begin treating yourself, keep in mind that it’s not about going to the polar opposite or jumping into a pool of depravity. But you must remember what deprivation can do to your spirit.
Deprivation is, by its very definition, cutting something out of your life that you enjoy. But a life without indulgence will make you feel depleted, devoid of all the juicy stuff that keeps us feeling alive.
If left untreated, it will eventually fill you with bad energy, frustration and resentment.
While we may feel that caving into temptation will make us feel wayward and wicked, if we learn to build in treats on a semi-regular basis, it will actually help keep us on track.
- You Will Realize You Are Important
While we are prioritizing other people in our lives, it’s easy to forget that we must prioritize ourselves as well.
When you start to indulge, you are learning to delight yourself. This will boost your mood and minimize your stress—and it makes you realize that these little things are good for you.
When you start to treat yourself, it gives you the express permission to prioritize yourself, no matter how brief it is. Incorporating little treats into your regular routine will help you navigate the peaks and troughs of self-care better.
And the bottom line is that we are all deserving of these little things.
Self-care isn’t about admitting you are weak or over-indulgent; it’s about taking the opportunity to prioritize yourself.
When you feel good, you attract positive people into your life and generate confidence. You are affirming yourself and your actions!
Go ahead, give it a try!
As Oscar Wilde once said, “The only way to get rid of temptation is to yield to it.”
Hey friends, thanks for reading. You probably noticed that I linked to other blogs within this post. I’ve read them, and I think you might enjoy them, too. I make a little money for these referrals, and the FTC needs you to know that. Be well, friends.
