Why can’t I post a comment?

If you are unable to comment on a blog, first check you are signed in. Blog discussions may be closed to new comments, in which case a message is displayed telling you the blog entry is closed. In very rare cases, the Organic Matters has to restrict accounts from posting to the blog.

Why hasn’t my comment appeared?

Your comment may be awaiting moderation. Some comments are entirely pre-moderated, which means that those comments are checked by a moderator before they appear to insure they do not break the house rules.

What are the House Rules?

We’ve established the following House Rules so that everyone can get the most out of the Organic Matters blog.

Please note that these rules apply to rich media submissions such as images, video and audio clips, as well as content associated with you such as avatar images.

We reserve the right to fail comments which…

  • Are considered likely to disrupt, provoke, attack or offend others
  • Are racist, sexist, homophobic, sexually explicit, abusive or otherwise objectionable
  • Contain swear words or other language likely to offend
  • Break the law or condone or encourage unlawful activity. This includes breach of copyright, defamation and contempt of court.
  • Advertise products or services for profit or gain
  • Are seen to impersonate someone else
  • Describe or encourage activities which could endanger the safety or well-being of others
  • Are considered to be “spam”, that is posts containing the same, or similar, content posted multiple times
  • Are considered to be off-topic for the blog discussion

    be now. You’re so intelligent. You realize therefore

    so many varied angles. Its like women and men don’t seem to be fascinated unless it’s

  4. ORGANIC TO SAVE OUR FERTILE SOIL AND GROW HEALTHY FOOD

    I am promoting organic as I do know that it is superior in many ways. I did both organic and chemicals together for three years for comparison. It was not done in a Laboratory but on a working dairy farm. I admit it was not scientific as most farmers are taught to believe chemicals are the only way.

    I have found over the years that how the soil is prepared for planting is the best way to get the maximum plant growth and to control insects and disease. Promotions that come from the USDA and chemicals companies benefit them more than the farmers and humanity. Shallow till and heavy equipment with water soluble chemical fertilizer is ruining our fertile soil. Plant roots are the foundation of healthy plants. The roots have to be able to grow. Shallow till limits them to grow through the hard pans to reach minor and trace minerals for the plants health. The soil has to be porous and able to breathe for nitrogen and oxygen to be captured and held in the soil. I get all my nitrogen for plants from the 78% in the atmosphere. The 78% nitrogen is available from the atmosphere combined with oxygen which provided the life needed in the soil. When there is no organic matter in the soil this process is stopped. The nitrogen and oxygen come done when it rains and trapped with at least 6% organic matter. Chemical acid fertilizer burns up the organic matter and is simply a plant stimulant. Organic grows healthy plants for healthy food with big root growth.

    I have done comparison tests organic vs chemicals in the field. I planted corn with a two corn planter. Two rows of organic and two rows of chemical side by side. The chemical plants germinated and kept growing and never paused and very green. Organic corn came up about 4 inches and stopped for about ten days Worried you bet as the chemical was a foot taller. Soon the organic started growing and caught the chemical corn in seven weeks. At silo filling time could not tell the difference. The corn field was spread with cow manure with rock phosphate added and harrowed in soon after spreading. I pulled some of both and the organic had big root growth with hundreds of white roots I call scouts that pick up trace minerals. Chemicals stimulated with water soluble acid NPK had a ball of roots with no white roots. The NPK overrides all trace minerals that are in the subsoil. These plants are prone to insects and disease and the vast amount of different chemicals developed end up in the food supply. Chemicals also kills our earthworms and bees that are of the most importance for healthy food production and for healthy humanity

    I have a reason to believe that organic farming and gardening versus chemicals is the only way to save our fertile soil. Fertile soil without chemicals grows healthy plants that pass healthy food up the food chain for healthy humans and animals. I was farming the conventional way (chemical). I experimented starting in 1950 doing organic and chemicals together. For three years I did both together and two experiments that convinced me that organic was superior and changed completely too organic in 1953. In 1958 I won many awards in contests in Vermont and New England over thousands of chemical farmers.

    I wrote a book “Learned by the Fencepost”– Lessons in Organic Farming and Gardening — published in 2011. I wrote it so any lay person can understand it. My education was on the dairy farm in Vermont. The book can be reviewed on Amazon and Kindle by typing “Learned by the Fencepost” on Google. The Book is easy to read with several pictures explaining techniques learned from observation, logic and a good memory. I have been told it is easy to understand and I explain why I did things for my soil, like the Master taught us. My two experiments I did in 1952 are in the book, and cost nothing for myself as well as the taxpayers. I would like to hear from you. I enjoyed writing it, as I was encouraged to do so, before my procedures were lost.

    I have been very pleased with response where other farmers and gardeners have read my book or used the similar procedures I have. All have said their soil continues to get better every year and produces more and better produce. Chemicals make for an impressive stimulated plant, but do nothing to build up the fertile soil. Instead the acid chemicals burn up the carbon (organic matter) in the soil and release it as CO2. Soil without organic matter is dirt without life. Organic grows plants and chemicals stimulate them.

    My theme: FERTILE SOIL IS THE LIFE BLOOD OF THE EARTH AND ALL FOOD COMES FROM THE SOIL – FOOD – HEALTH – IN THIS ORDER.

    My name is Christian Alvarez. I am from Bolivia. I work in a small organization dedicated to produce cookies. We want to get the organic certification according CE 837/2007 regulation, but we have a problem. We use sodium bicarbonate as an input. We use it in small quantities. According the CE 889/2008 normative, sodium bicarbonate would be approved only for producing CARAMEL and CHEESE. I have investigated, and I have seen that there are cookies produced in Europe, which are produced with sodium bicarbonate. I am really confused about that.
