CCOF Delivers a Roadmap to The Future

Most will agree that California is facing an extreme climate crisis. In fact, the entire world is experiencing rising temperatures, devastating storms, frequent heat waves, winds, and wildfires.

Years of California drought have created dwindling water supplies and the disruption of normal ecosystems. As of this writing, most locations in California haven’t received any measurable rainfall since December 26th – January and February should be the rainiest months of the season. California State Congresswoman Introduces First Organic-to-School Pilot Program

California has always been at the forefront of change in the food movement. It’s the state that first passed organic regulations in 1990 and birthed the first certifier, California Certified Organic Farmers (CCOF).

The first Farm-to-School projects also sprang forth in the Golden State in 1997, at Santa Monica-Malibu United School District and The Edible Schoolyard  in Berkeley.

At long last, both Farm-to-School and Organic-to-School may come together. On February 21st, Assembly Member Cecilia Aguiar-Curry introduced AB 958 which would create the first-ever Organic-to-School pilot program in California. I have heard a lot of buzz lately from the media, USDA and environmentalists   regarding the state of honeybees.  The decline of the Honeybee population has been well documented since 2006.
