Trump’s Budget? A Travesty for Sustainable Food & Agriculture

The Trump administration’s FY19 budget was released l Monday and would reduce USDA’s budget by 25% making draconian cuts in the sustainable food and agriculture world. Since all of us eat and depend on agriculture and the people who farm, it is everyone’s responsibility to understand the impact a budget like this would have. Last March scientists declared that the global average concentration of carbon dioxide in the atmosphere reached a new record high, soaring to surpass 400 parts per million. Agricultural Workers on the Front Lines of California’s Drought

Farmers in DroughtCalifornia is enduring its third consecutive year of drought and the impacts to agriculture and its economy are profound. The limited ground water and dry wells are impacting everything from the price of organic almonds to the connoisseur’s grass fed beef. In my previous blog entitled California, the House of the Rising Sun,  I highlight the effects the drought is having on farmers and ranchers, and the emergency measures being implemented to conserve water and change the way we manage it.
